Mwenge House employees yesterday protested against delays in paying their salaries by lighting bonfires and blockading the nearby roads.

The 50 employees were demanding Sh10 million arrears, which they claimed had not been paid by Narc for the past 10 months.

Anti-riot police dispersed the workers who were using broken furniture to light fire during the 4pm incident.

Motorists plying the Ole Odume Road were diverted to alternative routes.

Their spokesman, Mr Denis Njue, said they would from today embark on a hunger strike "until our demand is met."

He accused Narc's director of elections, Mr Alex Muriithi, and the treasurer Mr Peter Kubebea, of failing to address their plight.

They appealed to President Kibaki intervene.
